- INSTALL SMBUP MAC OS X
- INSTALL SMBUP INSTALL
- INSTALL SMBUP UPDATE
- INSTALL SMBUP PASSWORD
- INSTALL SMBUP PS3
SMBUp won't run on system start unless you add it to System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login Items, onto any users who will use the Mac / Mac Server.
INSTALL SMBUP UPDATE
Click on Update once done and Save All to restart the service. If you created a user for SMBUp, click Manage Users and add the username and password. If you didn't create a new user for SMBUp you need to tick Allow Guest to allow Everyone access to the share. Click Add new shared drive to add the scan to folder.
INSTALL SMBUP INSTALL
Install SMBUp and unlock it with the padlock top-left (sometimes it doesn't appear, but you can still click the empty area). SMUp does this anyway, but it is easier to do it now, as sometimes SMBUp fails to disable it on system start. SMUp will tell you this if you try to add a username with more than 15 user groups assigned to it.īack to File Sharing, either go to File Sharing Options and untick Share files and folders using SMB (Windows) or disable File Sharing completely by unticking it here. You won't be able to use an existing username for SMUp as they are usually assigned to too many user groups. If you need to create a new user, go to System Preferences -> Users & Groups, Give it a suitable name and password. Set Everyone to Read & Write if you don't want to use a username and password, otherwise you will need to create a new user just for SMBUp. Before you install it go to System Preferences -> Sharing -> File Sharing, add the folder you want to use as an scan to folder. You set up sharing and permissions using SMBup. I'm reluctant to try this again due to security concerns. I remember using this years ago when my ancient HP OfficeJet had the same problem scanning to network folder. Guys I think the solution is a lot easier than everyone thought, ive been looking for a way of making my WDTV work with Lion for days now, trawling through forums, then I spotted what soulside said.Setting up SMPUp is pretty straight-forward. SMBup is a stand-alone version of SMB (independent of the SMB built-in to Mac OS). All thats happening here is that without Samba Lion is not automatically connecting, however the WDTV is still a drive on your network so of course it can be easily connected to.įirst I was not sure what soulside (page 3) meant so i went to finder clicked on network and briefly my wdtv flashed up, however when clicked on it quickly went away. In Finder on the mac click ‘connect to server’ in the Go menu (apple+k) Switch on your WDTV, go to settings / Network Setup. Type in the IP address from the Network Setup page on your WDTV.
INSTALL SMBUP PASSWORD
If it asks for password etc just use whatever you would normally on your mac or click connect as guest.

Soulside thank you so much, not sure why others have not picked up on this but really hope it helps. I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth. This SMBUp program did solve half the problem. I can now stream files from the Mac to the WDTV Live using Network Share instead of Media Server. I can’t tell yet if the quality suffers, but it seems to be OK.
INSTALL SMBUP MAC OS X
I have tested this Mac OS X SMB Fix under Yosemite 10.10.2, with XMBC/Kodi as a client on an Android device, and it works great. SMBUp is a free application that replaces the Apple SMB implementation with the Open Source Samba version. However, while this does solve the streaming issue, that was the lesser half of my requirements. Installing SMBUp is pretty simple, however configuration got me confused initially. For the most part I prefer to copy files from the Mac to a drive attached via USB to the WDTV Live. Doing this means that the file will not be interrupted by a reboot, will not be affected by a network slowdown, and I can even watch whatever with the computer turned off. SMBUp does not fix the part of the problem where the Finder no longer connects to the external hard drive.
INSTALL SMBUP PS3
So I can stream now (but I could do that before with PS3 Server, or EyeConnect - it just didn’t support subtitles.) But I can’t copy to the drive unless I unplug it and plug it into the MacBook Pro. Any suggestions for how I can network a drive plugged into the WDTV Live? Not a very elegant solution for a user interface that is generally pretty sleek.

SMB is a ridiculously slow protocol and it may be less than optimal if you need a high-performance and reliable transfer.

This is inherent of the protocol so every implementation will be as bad.
